Just in time for Valentine's Day, from Dove Chocolates, comes this message for MilongaCat ("the only cat who loves you back"):

(For UK friends, Dove Chocolates are bite-size chocolates wrapped in foil, with messages printed on the inside of the wrappers. Bob, Tango Colorado's Friendly Guy, hands the candies out to the women at milongas and practicas as if they were ... well ... candy!)

Your comparison I can not ensure that I deserve but your kind words in equating the two I treasure.
Regarding our midwinter affairs in tango scene in the UK, I can say that pre-Christmas celebrations at many venues are done with some finness and gusto. There are a few parties planned for the new year's , usually one big one and a few small ones. This year we were lucky to have a very happy large party that lasted till well after 5 am in a central London venue :)
I am sure we can find you enough info to help you choose.
